About Teal

Yoga Practice, Training and Teaching

I began practicing yoga in the form of meditation at the age of five with my parents. This sparked a lifelong love, study and practice of yoga and Eastern Studies. I have over 3000 hours of training and have been teaching yoga for 30 years. I am now deepening my life and work through a 300 hour Vajra Yoga Teacher Training program in Tibetan Buddhism and Hatha Yoga with Tenzin Bob Thurman and Michele Loew.

Some of the teachers who have informed and inspired my life and work, either through direct study with them or through their writings and online courses, are: HH the 14th Dalai Lama, Tias Little, Phyllis Rollins, Mary Reilly, Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Ramanand Patel, Aadil Palkhivala, Richard Freemand, Mary Taylor, Tenzin Robert Thurman, Geshe Thupten Jinpa, Pema Chodron, TKV Desikachar, BKS Iyengar, the faculty at the Kripalu Center, Dr. Jeffrey Yuen, Marcus Sedgwick, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Margaret Atwood, Rick Berry, David Lynch, Ted Seth Jacobs, Michael Grimaldi and Tony Ryder.

My deepest gratitude to them all, and to my greatest teacher of all, this beautiful Mother Earth.

Learning and teaching yoga has been one of the greatest joys and passions in my life. The capacity we have to evolve, grow, heal and support each other never ceases to amaze me, and the way that yoga can support us on that journey is beautiful and reassuring.

I feel the deepest medicine that yoga offers us is an increased capacity to slow down and enter states of deep stillness where our true nature is always abiding. The focus of my teaching now is mostly with individuals who are transforming trauma, chronic illness, post-surgery or injury, or other deep work in their life. It is a privilege to assist them, and I am forever transformed by the courage and beauty of my students.

If you are interested in working with me one-on-one (in person or via Zoom), or in my upcoming workshops and classes, please email me at: tealdesigns@gmail.com

Mountain Woman

I am deeply in love with Mother Nature. I spend as much time as possible outside, mostly in the Rocky Mountains (Tséstho’e (Cheyenne) and Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) land). Or, at my farm in the Appalachian Mountains (Tsalaguwetiyi (Cherokee) and S’atsoyaha (Yuchi) land).

My work, in all its expressions, is informed and inspired by the relentless beauty of the wild. I am a herbalist and make a great deal of plant and stone medicines. I am also a student of Dr. Jeffrey Yuen (88th generation Daoist priest from the Jade Purity School, Lao Tzu sect, and 26th generation priest of the Complete Reality School, Dragon Gate sect). I am a Level 4 Taoist Stone Medicine Practitioner. My stone elixirs can be found at Obsidian Butterfly Elixirs.

When I am not making things, or teaching yoga, you’ll probably find me playing in the woods with my pup, Bhakti, or exploring the world with my hubbie, Mike.

Art and Writing

Art is my joy and passion. You can find a small sampling of my work in pencil, paint, found objects and wool at: tealchimblo.com

I have always been an avid reader and writer. Currently, I have completed the first draft of my first novel. I am also working on a collection of poetry, and a book of short stories.

Life Experiences

I was lucky to be a child who grew up roaming in nature and this has formed me as a person more than anything else. I was also extremely fortunate to spending many of my formative years in the UK, Europe and Saudi Arabia. Traveling and living in many different cultures has been a great joy and education for me.

Fine Art, Art Direction and Design

I have had a long career as a fine artist, graphic designer, art director and product designer in diverse industries such as fashion, and the design of comic books and graphic novels. A number of the publications I worked on won awards such as the Gutenberg D’Argent Medal and several Spectrum Awards.  I no longer do graphic design for others, but find it useful in my own endeavors.

Elementary Art Teacher

One of the greatest joys and privileges of my life was teaching art to young people in West Houston’s inner city schools. Teaching yoga and art to children in many settings is something I continue to love.

Art School

I attended The Art Students League of New York, NYC and L’ecole Albert Defois, France where I studied with some incredible teachers including Ted Seth Jacobs, Anthony Ryder, Jacob Collins and Michael Grimaldi.

BS Visual Arts and Education

I also attended Antioch College, and the University of North Dakota…where it was very, very cold.

May all beings be happy. May all beings be healthy. May all beings be free from suffering. May all beings experience peace.

Teal is one of the most outstanding yoga teachers I have ever worked with.  When I was pregnant with my son, her prenatal class helped to prepare me for labor both physically and emotionally.  I ended up having a C-Section and I am convinced that my quick recovery can be contributed to Teal’s excellent instruction and knowledge of how our bodies work.  I would recommend Teal’s classes to anyone, but especially her prenatal instruction.  It was beneficial and helped me appreciate my pregnancy even more.

Teal assisted me in strengthening my back both before and after highly invasive surgery for severe scoliosis. Her superlative knowledge of the body and how it works helped me to gain confidence and muscle support in a body ravaged by disability. She adapted more difficult stretches to my ability so that I would not have pain and therefore would continue to work to heal my back. She is highly professional but also warm and understanding with a very good sense of humour.

Teal is an incredible teacher and healer! Her knowledge and love goes into each class, each treatment and each product. Highly recommend this gifted healer!!

Dr. Chery Kendrick, Tennessee

I took a full day workshop on yoga and natural healing alternatives and it was AMAZING! Great yoga, delicious food, and a ton of information on natural healing remedies that grow all around you. Teal taught us how to identify plants that grow locally, what they can be used for, and how to use them. I took pages of notes so I wouldn’t forget anything and I can’t wait for the next one!

Teal is one of those women who embodies complete uniqueness. Her study of numerous disciplines in healing are treasures for all to be nourished by. Teal’s workshops are an opportunity for people to come together in an engrossing, compassionate, relaxing environment. Teal is a highly intelligent, loving, nurturing teacher….a true enchantress of our time.

April Becka, Asheville, North Carolina

I have received stone treatments and taken private yoga sessions with Teal, her loving presence and ability to intuitively work with the root of the cause is amazing. She has a gentle directive energy and is one of the best yoga teachers I know!

Julie Ann Travis, Atlanta, Georgia

Teal is the meter by which I measure all other yoga instructors. She was my first yoga instructor and did a wonderful job introducing the poses and describing how to accomplish them. I enjoyed her motivation, gentle encouragement, and the sound of her voice. I was heartbroken when she departed Houston. I hope all other students of yoga have the pleasure of working with such a gifted and dedicated instructor. I look forward to checking out her online courses.

I took Teal’s full day workshop with yoga on healing herbs found in your own backyard. The day started off with a wonderful yoga class followed by a lovely lunch and then we got down to the work of identifying herbs (lovingly called weeds in my home). We learned how they can be used for all kinds of ailments. We even got to create a tincture to take home and then another fabulous yoga class. The workshop was intimate so I got to meet some wonderful people, the information fascinating, and Teal’s energy made me feel so happy to be there…. I would highly recommend any and all of her classes!!!

Jo-Dee Collins, Charlotte, North Carolina

Teal Chimblo is a fantastic yoga instructor. She is encouraging and extremely knowledgeable, especially when I was working through some lower back pain. Teal was able to modify my participation in the class to reduce pain and further injury, while taking into account the other, more advanced, students. I would highly recommend Teal to anyone who enjoys yoga.
